The Government of Malta and the Gaming Authority today set up a Responsible Gaming Foundation.

The Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Competitiveness and Economic Growth, Dr. Edward Zammit Lewis, pointed out that this foundation would promote responsible gaming and work autonomously with the government.

This foundation will be separate from the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) and will be self-sufficient mostly through funds from Maltco as well as the LGA and private stakeholders.

The foundation is currently drawing up an action plan for various initiatives aimed at different sections of the Maltese population. It is also undertaking a study to measure the impact of gambling on society.

It is interesting to note that the gaming industry contributes 10% to Malta’s GDP thanks to several incentives offered by the Maltese Government in this sector. Currently 250 remote gaming companies are licensed in Malta.
